Alright, this topic is essential to all Instrument forums. However, a few rules/guidelines about this one: all songs recommended for the list must [1] be licensed for legal use on MXTabs.net, [2] have a valid tab available on MXTabs.net, [3] contain a bass guitar line (note: you do not have to necessarily post or look up all this information, however they will not be included in the list if we find that they do not meet these guidelines); also, please be fair and appropriate when recommending songs for this list, in other words please read the Bass Forum Guidelines topic before posting (as you should do anyways).

Everyone is free to recommend songs to the list, and challenge whether each song deserves its given difficulty status, however please be mindful that all arguements here should be addressed intelligently, and that we do not tolerate any disrespect, flaming, or "hating" on anyone or the songs.

Also, I will be including genres for each song, to further help out people wishing to find suitable songs, and understand the most important genre pertaining the individual song itself, and not the band as a whole. However, I will include up to three genres for each song, with the first must having to pertain only to the song, whereas the other two can pertain to the band.

Surely you need some funk? My experience has always been that funk has some of the most complex and fun riffs.

Haha, maybe you should give a few songs that we can put on the list then, tongue.gif. But yeah, I'll go look that up here when I get a chance and add a few in.

K, I'm no bass player (Yet. Thinking of learning soon) but I may have a few additions to this list...

Unsung by Helmet
A.D.I.D.A.S. by Korn

Those come to mind. Wouldn't know how hard they are to play though.

Haha, well if it comes to Korn I would actually suggest Freak On A Leash as a better learn (considering I'm such a fan and all, XD), but I'll definitely put up Unsung.

Give It All and/or Like The Angel by Rise Against seem like great candidates for the intermediate category to me however I'm not sure that the tabbed versions here are very correct. sad.gif

Funny you mention that because that was the first song that came to mind.

I just didn't want to name every Korn song there is in my post, lol smile.gif

Haha, yeah, Korn was definitely one of the big reasons I started playing bass...especially the 5-string bass. Of course I grew to love the 5-string in general and refuse to play with 4-strings now as a main instrument, but yeah, haha, I just thought "Freak on a Leash" was more or less Korn's big 'bass' song that wasn't their typical slap song all the way through, wink.gif. Might help capture a couple more fans haha.

I know I might get laughed at for this one, but I'll do it anyway. I think Rearranged by Limp Bizkit is a great intermediate bass song. It's catchy and fun to play, and if it's just you playing alone with your bass it sounds really cool. Also helps you work on hammer ons and pull offs.

Haha, no laughing here...wait, ignore the haha, that was not meant like that, tongue.gif. I actually really like that song. I even used to be a big Limp Bizkit fan, so yeah. But yeah, good suggestion, I'll get that up in a moment.

I think that it will be hard to keep the list to keep up to date.

How so?

If you're talking about the links, then I can understand your issue, but don't worry. All someone has to do is if they notice the tab has a better version at the time, is post here, and I'll check it. And then every couple of months I'll actually go through and check all the tabs to make sure they're up to date.

Haha, you better damned well be, get the hell out of the green room and get in here more often, laugh.gif.

But yeah, we will definitely be trying hard to ensure that the list is up-to-date link-wise and that we are able to respond to replies as quickly as possible.

Well I pay enough attention to this forum. I will almost always be able to check this so, no big deal. I'm on more than you anyways.

Well do you know any good songs in particular you would want to add? Give me a few and I will go check them ou,t and also see if we have suitable tabs for them, and add them to the list, tongue.gif.

Good beginner songs:

With or Without You by U2

Fight For Your Right by Beastie Boys (submitted a tab for this song)

Is UNIVERSAL POLYGRAM INTERNATIONAL on the "safe list" ... I don't see any U2 songs from Joshua Tree on the site so I won't submit a tab. It's so easy though...

Steady 8th notes... | D | A | Bm | G | (play the roots of the chords on your bass)

There that's the whole song on bass.
