This guy shows off some amazing drumming skills and still somehow loses in the next round of the competition.

Damn, I wish my rudiments were that accurate.

Hah yeah I've seen that before on YouTube for some reason... I think I saw a tattoo performance on Drummerworld and started searching for such stuff. Obviously the double strokes are ridiculous, but how do they do all the flips at the same time, that's what I wanna know.

Yeah, exactly. That guy was pretty insane. Obviously puts in too much practice time, haha.

You can never have too much practice! Just look at Virgil Donati. That's what supposedly "too much" practice does to you - turns you into a drumming cyborg.

Which is, coincidently, the best kind of cyborg.

Haha, yeah, that's true. I personally get too bored if I practice too much. That, and I like to play really loud whenever I do play, and my amp only goes so loud because my nice amp was stolen, and I can only play it during certain hours of the day, during which I'm usually busy.

True, either I start to do things wrong after awhile and I'll start to get mad at my drums and bust holes through the heads lol, or I'll just get bored of it like you said.
If I practice too much it can do me bad. I like to limit my practice time per day so said above doesn't happen haha.

Yeah, I agree with you on all that. Now, it's no problem limiting myself...it's just a matter of motivating myself in the first place, because of all the time constrictions, XD.

Bored, with practicing? How unprofessional of you. Theres a time and place for everything, BUT that depends on if you're pulling 12 hours or you're working with a bunch of ghouls at work (this only happens during a certain period of a 24 hour day), THEN that throws a wrench into the works.

With the 12, you're boned and with the ghouls, before work. Maybe.

But with the bored part, the problem is whatever youre working on at the time during practice. And the style of your practice. I can assure you of that part, been there done that.......... Take the time off and go find something that'll catch your ear thats completely in left field. Its so obscure that you gotta go to try it no matter what and continue with it as long as you either want or can. Tho you can't master completely it but it'll give you a new prospective on coming back with that new thing to impalement it with the stuff your currently working on. Improvisation is the key with the new stuff that your trying to work on. Do this and back to the standard, back and forth. I know, I know it sounds bizarre but it does work.

example: a drummer that all he knows is the Ringo Star beat. bored playing sloppy 2/4 beats, he nows listens to up-beat fast tempo classical music (full orchestra, no or little percussion) and thinks "Hmmm, what would Carl Palmer do in this piece?"  and experiments, lets his mind wonder as he practices. DING!! "HEY, I can use that with this Beatles song." Geezz, I wonder what does it sound like now? I bet its a far better improvement then before.

But you know, if you ARE bored with practicing then I'd stop completely and do something else or try another instrument. Cause you're always going to hit that same wall every time. And how productive is that???

Haha, maybe I phrased that badly. I love playing, I just never have time is the simple of it. And the time I do have, usually I'm not able to actually play do to volume issues.
