So this is a really vague topic, but something like what I've been meaning to post for a while now. Basically, what albums do you know that have great drumming on them? Like if you had to say what your top 3 albums were based on drumming quality, what would they be? Or if you're like me and find picking lists of 'best things' too challenging, just name some really good ones in no particular order.

I'd have to go with Dave Matthews Band - Crash as one, not because the drumming is particularly explosive or impossible to play, but because it just sounds so perfect. Two Step, Lie In Our Graves, Tripping Billies, Drive In Drive Out, they're all there. And of course the best of all them, #41, the song that made me fall in love with DMB and Carter, and to an extent ignited my passion for drumming.

You probably know I'm a fan of Jojo Mayer too, but I just recently found out all these songs I liked so much were from an album (I'd only heard him from MD05, live at a drum clinic, and on his DVD), so Jojo Mayer & Nerve - Prohibited Beats would be another of my top albums. If you're a fan of drum 'n' bass AND a drummer, you WILL appreciate the sound of this album. Even if you're not a drummer it's got a great sound, but some of his chops just blow you away if you listen to the subtlety and know just how hard they are to play.

Others on my list would be Vinnie Colaiuta - Vinnie Colaiuta (yes that's the name of the album), Porcupine Tree - Fear Of A Blank Planet, Tool - Lateralus and 10,000 Days, and The Mars Volta - Bedlam In Goliath.

Of course, if you've read anything I've said in these forums, you'll notice I've mentioned most of these drummers/albums before. Now it's up to you to surprise me wink.gif

Hahaha. Steve Reich is retarded. I love him so much. 6 Marimba's is one of my favourites ever.

Also Porcupine Tree is brilliant.

i would have to agree that the drum tracks on crash are incredibly done, im a huge fan of chad sexton's drumming on Grassroots though. Its probably my favorite drum album. A lot of the rudiments on the album are simply sublime.

Oh, I gotta add Big Whiskey and the Groogrux King to the list tongue.gif That album is gonna kick some major ass!

Just Check out Funny The Way It Is, Why I Am, and Spaceman. There's an article with an interview with Dave and a video about the background of the album. Powerful stuff.

Porcupine Tree - The Incident

I mention this because I'm going to see them on February 7 in Melbourne.

HELL YES!!!

If you've never seen Gavin Harrison before, well he's a beast. And an awesome bloke too.
